Sarchu is the midpoint in this route. However, Keylong is the most chosen point for an overnight stay. This route is open for trekkers from May, but one may find road blockages due to heavy snowfall at Rohtang and Baralacha till early June. 

 

Best Time to Travel on Manali-Leh Highway

The Manali-Leh highway opens from May to September for travelers, with June to July being the selected time for planning a road trip. The roads are in better condition here for a drive and hotels are operational. Travelers planning to visit Ladakh in May or early June, usually choose to fly to Leh. For a road trip, September is also chosen as the road conditions are improved and the crowds and the number of vehicles are considerably fewer.

Places to Stay on Manali-Leh Highway

One will find a plethora of hotels and guesthouses on the Manali-Leh route. However, as crossing Jispa and heads towards Leh, the number of accommodations reduces drastically. Other than this there are campsites based on this highway route that provides all the basic facilities and is comfortable for an overnight stay.

Srinagar-Leh Highway

Even though the Srinagar-Leh highway is less chosen and it is equally beautiful. The distance and time covered on the Srinagar-Leh route are 418 km and 10 hrs. This route provides a number of stay options and petrol refueling when compared to the Manali-Leh route. A few major attractions of this route include Sonmarg, Zojila pass, Kargil, and a few monasteries.

Best Time to Travel on Srinagar-Leh Highway

This highway opens from May to October. However, the best time to visit here is between June to early July as the road conditions are favorable for a road trip. September is also considered to be an ideal t month for a Bike trip to Ladakh from Srinagar; one will hardly find any streams on the route and the possibilities of encountering landslides are also less.
